Before

A 1960s build, this family home featured an aging roof, poor insulation and leaky building envelope that the clients wanted to update and convert into a healthy, beautiful, highly efficient home with the potential to inspire others to reduce their emissions and reliance on fossil fuels and grid tied energy.

During

The removal of the roof system and existing chimney were undertaken in a predictably dry season here in the Okanagan…until the rains came. Existing stucco was removed and recycled, windows were donated along the fireplace bricks, and the demolition gave way to reconstruction.

After

Now armed with a contemporary design and new vaulted roof system, the new home features R80 attic insulation, 5” of external rigid insulation on the walls, and an airtightness coefficient of .5 ACH, the new version of the home is a more efficient, beautiful and healthy iteration of its former self.
